Academic honoured with Nurse Researcher Award

Prof Leepile Sehularo, a professor of Psychiatry and Mental Health Nursing at the North-West University (NWU), has received the Nurse Researcher Award at the South African Nursing Council (SANC) Nursing Excellence Awards. The ceremony took place at The Capital Menlyn Maine in Pretoria on 8 November 2024.

This award celebrates significant contributions to nursing research and forms part of the SANC’s 80th anniversary.

NWU to honour Peter Monametsi Chiepe during the upcoming Spring graduations

The North-West University (NWU) is pleased to announce that an honorary doctorate will be conferred upon Peter Monametsi Chiepe, an esteemed earth scientist, social entrepreneur, distinguished businessman, and farmer from Botswana during its Spring graduation ceremony on Thursday, 3 October 2024.

As a cattle breeding specialist and owner of Desert Ranch Reproduction Management Centre, Mr Chiepe will be honoured for his immense contribution to agriculture in South Africa.

NWU thrashes UFS 4-0 to secure home Varsity Football final

The North-West University (NWU) delivered a commanding performance in the semi-final clash against the University of the Free State (UFS), defeating them 4-0 at the NWU Mahikeng Stadium to cement their place in the Varsity Football final.

The result was a reversal of fortune after UFS had beaten the NWU in the group stages. This time, the home side dominated from the onset, leaving UFS with little chance of repeating their previous success.

Public Protector advocates for community engagement and constitutional democracy

Public Protector Adv Kholeka Gcaleka delivered a lecture at the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus on 11 July 2024, during which she emphasised the role of community engagement and the Public Protector in upholding and strengthening South Africa’s constitutional democracy.

Adv Gcaleka highlighted the principles of South Africa’s constitutional democracy, established in 1994, adding that the rule of law, transparency, and accountability are the bedrock of the nation's democratic framework.

Students to represent SA at 2024 World Dance Sport Championship

Omphile Makhobosi and Palesa Mphela, members of the North-West University’s (NWU’s) dance team on the Mahikeng Campus, have been selected to represent South Africa at the 2024 World Dance Sport Federation (WDSF) World Championship’s Latin Under-21 competition. The prestigious event will take place on 16 November 2024 in Salaspils, Latvia.

Prince Gontse Motaung, their head coach and manager, has also been selected as national coach and manager, and he will manage and coach the couple.

Hosted by esteemed educators and professionals in the field, the camp sought to immerse students in real classroom scenarios and equip them with the necessary skills and mindset for success in the job market.

Soccer Institute's u-21 team gears up for the Pirates Cup tournament

The North-West University (NWU) Soccer Institute's under-21 team is gearing up for a thrilling challenge as they prepare to compete in the Pirates Cup tournament, one of South Africa's most esteemed youth soccer competitions.

Set to kick off at the Wits Marks Park Sports Grounds, the tournament promises intense matches starting on 28 March.

In the first round the team will face formidable opponents, including Vhembe Cora Academy, TUT Emalahleni and Midlands Academy.
