Empowering teens living with chronic illnesses

Teens living with chronic diseases need not be defined by their illnesses but by their potential and determination to succeed.

Dr Kezell Klinck, senior lecturer in the School of Management Sciences at the North-West University (NWU), delivered this message during the recent Chronic Life as a Teen event at the Lonely Park Multipurpose Centre in Mahikeng.

How second-hand clothing paved the way for senior lecturer’s career

The road from Kagiso, where she sold second-hand clothing under the scorching Gauteng sun, to the lecture halls of North-West University (NWU) was long, bumpy and deeply personal for Dr Salphinah Vuloyimuni Ubisi.

Now a senior lecturer in the subject group Public Administration and Local Government at the NWU, Dr Ubisi’s story began in hardship and determination. “The money generated from selling old clothes became my main source of income and this provided the core finance for my studies.”.

Construction commences on Mahikeng teaching facilities

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus is increasing its teaching spaces by constructing new laboratories and lecture halls this year to address the growing needs of students and staff.

The construction of geography and life sciences laboratory spaces under the Faculty of Education began on 15 January. These facilities are located in the central parking area of the A4, A3, A9 and A10 buildings. New lecture halls are also being constructed behind the nursing building.

Aerobics team secures historic third championship

Hard work and commitment paid off for the North-West University (NWU) Mahikeng Campus aerobics team who achieved their third consecutive victory at the 2024 University Sports South Africa (USSA) Aerobics Championships.

Held from 2 to 4 December 2024 at Walter Sisulu University, teams from universities across the country competed in various aerobics disciplines during the event.

Academic honoured with Nurse Researcher Award

Prof Leepile Sehularo, a professor of Psychiatry and Mental Health Nursing at the North-West University (NWU), has received the Nurse Researcher Award at the South African Nursing Council (SANC) Nursing Excellence Awards. The ceremony took place at The Capital Menlyn Maine in Pretoria on 8 November 2024.

This award celebrates significant contributions to nursing research and forms part of the SANC’s 80th anniversary.

NWU to honour Peter Monametsi Chiepe during the upcoming Spring graduations

The North-West University (NWU) is pleased to announce that an honorary doctorate will be conferred upon Peter Monametsi Chiepe, an esteemed earth scientist, social entrepreneur, distinguished businessman, and farmer from Botswana during its Spring graduation ceremony on Thursday, 3 October 2024.

As a cattle breeding specialist and owner of Desert Ranch Reproduction Management Centre, Mr Chiepe will be honoured for his immense contribution to agriculture in South Africa.
