South Africa has been on lockdown for almost year, and businesses across the country have had to find innovative ways to continue operating.

The North-West University (NWU) Gallery is no different, and after Covid-19 restrictions were enforced, it started hosting its art exhibitions online.

The gallery is currently hosting a show by Sethembiso Zulu titled “Ikhaya Lika Moya”.

Zulu’s work is part of a trilogy. It forms part of a new body of work that he is developing in response to his journey as an artist, photographer and a healer who is trying to negotiate the modern world.

“Ikhaya Lika Moya” is an exploration into the Zionist Christian congregations. Zulu’s church membership allows the work the intimacy it enjoys because the people are familiar with him. This body of work also extends into objects of worships like the "izikhali" (softwood maces) which Zulu presents as an installation. His foray into autobiographical film work is also presented in the show. 

The exhibition kicked off on 14 February and will end on 21 March.
