Study bursaries up for grabs during Geexpo 2017

A university education can change not only your life, but also help to create a better future for your family and your community.  With this in mind,  three Grade 11 learners – with a knack for mathematics, science and computer programming – stand a chance to win study bursaries in access of R100 000 during the North-West University’s (NWU’s) annual Geexpo.

The annual Geexpo Expo for information technology, mathematics and statistical sciences will take place on Saturday, 14 October 2017, at the NWU’s campus in Vanderbijlpark.

The event – which will take place for the 5th time this year, will see learners as young as Grade 7 taking part in several mathematics and information sciences related activities. The highlight of the expo is without a doubt the Practical Assessment Task Competition – or PAT, as it is most commonly referred to.

The PAT Competition runs parallel with the curriculum outcomes for learners in high school – Grade 10 – 12, with IT as a subject at school. The aim of the competition is to encourage learners to enter their individual IT PAT projects and by doing so not only monitor the standard of their projects against those of their peers, but also to entice talented learners to consider a career in information technology.

The competition is seen as a highlight of the event since it affords three lucky Grade 11 learners the opportunity to realise their dreams of studying at the NWU. Each participating grade has a first, second and third place on the day, however, the day belongs to the Grade 11 PAT winners who will walk away with:

  • First place

Three year bursary to study BSc Information Technology at the NWU’s campus in Vanderbijlpark and supplementary prizes.

  • Second place

A two year bursary towards a BSc degree in Information Technology at the NWU’s campus in Vanderbijlpark and supplementary prizes.

  • Third place

A one year bursary towards a BSc degree in Information Technology at the NWU’s campus in Vanderbijlpark and supplementary prizes.
