Student Life at the North-West University (NWU) is gearing up to provide a power-packed experience for student leaders with the upcoming Student Leadership Summit on 6 October 2023.
Themed "Navigating your journey", this summit aims to equip student leaders with essential information and skills to thrive in their leadership roles.
The summit will delve into a wide range of topics necessary for navigating the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with expert presenters, participate in interactive sessions, and to network with like-minded student leaders.
NWU principal and vice-chancellor Prof Bismark Tyobeka will also formally launch the NWU Student Leadership Academy. This pioneering initiative seeks to cultivate and foster the next generation of leaders, providing them with the requisite skills and knowledge to thrive academically and professionally.
“A lot of time was spent on benchmarking, deliberating and collaborating with colleagues in and around the NWU and beyond to put together and constructing what we believe to be one of the most valuable and sought-after student leader development platforms in South Africa,” says Dr Sibusiso Chalufu, executive director for student life.
Other speakers at the event will include Dr Corrie Rheeder, director for student life on the NWU’s Potchefstroom Campus, Dr Alistair Mokoena, country director for Google South Africa, and Dr Phumzile Mmope, a strategic communication and leadership expert.
Prof Leenta Grobler, NWU MBA programme leader, Siphesihle Simelane, senior curriculum specialist, Yikumba Andreas, Student Representative Council chairperson for the term 2022/2023, and Marius van Rooyen, chairperson for arts and culture on the Potchefstroom Student Campus Council for the term 2022/2023, will participate in a panel discussion.
