Student Counselling and Development hosts stakeholder’s appreciation day

The Student Counselling and Development Centre (SCDC) and Health Care Centre on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Mahikeng hosted its first-ever stakeholder appreciation event on 20 November 2019.

The main purpose of the day was to acknowledge the role and support that different stakeholders in and around Mahikeng play towards supporting NWU students and the university in general.

These stakeholders, who support NWU students with regard to health, counselling and safety, were visited and presented with appreciation certificates. They included the Mmabatho Police station, Unit 9 Clinic, the Aurium Institute, Kgatelopele Wellness Centre, Lifeline, Thuthuzela Crisis Care Centre, Lonely Park Clinic, Montshiwa Clinic, Mahikeng Provincial Hospital, Victoria Hospital and the sub-district office of the Department of Health.

According to the manager of the SCDC, Lerato Wana, the support these stakeholders offer, eventually contributes towards the output rate of the NWU by providing support on issues of health, counselling and safety.

“Visiting each stakeholder to thank them for supporting our students was paramount. Gratitude is an emotion of connectedness which reminds us that we are a part of a system that extends beyond our immediate environment,” she says.

Grace Modiba from the Thuthuzela Crisis Centre says that they are humbled by the NWU’s gesture. and appreciate the visit and acknowledgement.

Mr Harries Thaba from the NWU hands a certificate of appreciation to the South African Police Services at the Mmabatho Police Station.
