Following the remarks made by Mr Theo Venter in an interview on RSG on 5 June 2018, the executive dean of the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences has engaged with Mr Venter on the matter.
Mr Venter has acknowledged the sensitivity and moral issues associated with any comparisons between apartheid and the democratic era leadership. No action will be instituted by the university following this discussion between Mr Venter and his line management.
The NWU values academic freedom and the participation of its academics in public discourse, while at the same time ensuring that the values of our democracy are upheld and respected by all members of the NWU community.
The university considers this matter to have been satisfactorily resolved.
