Lesego Motsepe, a rising star from the North-West University (NWU) Soccer Institute, was selected as one of the 10 standout talents participating in the prestigious FNB Varsity Player Experience 2023 with Cape Town City FC, a Premier Soccer League (PSL) team.
The FNB Varsity Player Experience is a remarkable platform that offers male and female varsity football players the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the life of a professional footballer, all through the generous support of the main sponsor, FNB.
During their time with Cape Town City FC, the players receive specialised training and engage in informative workshops, enriching their knowledge and skills.
Known fondly as "Walker" or "Trent" by his peers, Lesego hails from the football-crazed city of Johannesburg. His preferred position on the field is the dynamic role of a right wing back, where his speed and impressive dribbling skills shine.
However, his versatility extends beyond a single position, making him an invaluable asset capable of adapting seamlessly to various roles as the situation demands. This adaptability has been a key factor in his growth as a player, earning him recognition and respect among his fellow players.
"This was one of the greatest things I have done so far in my career,” says Lesego.
“Cape Town City is my favourite PSL team – I look up to Mkhize because of the position we both play. It's been nothing but a great experience to interact with the players and witness how professionals live and carry themselves, showing that they are human beings just like us.”
He says beyond football, he has learned a lot from the FNB workshops and media training.
“It's been a wonderful experience, one I will cherish for the rest of my life, and I would like to thank FNB for this opportunity that not many get. Regarding Cape Town City, I will be seeing them sooner than they know."
The FNB Varsity Player Experience with Cape Town City FC and Varsity Sports aims to open doors for tomorrow's football heroes, providing them with invaluable exposure and experiences that will shape their careers.
The NWU joins Lesego Motsepe in celebrating his achievement and is excited to see him make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
