Siya Metane – a heart for music and a head for business

If the name Siya Metane – aka Slikour – sounds familiar, you will be excused for remembering him only as a member of Skwatta Kamp, the seven member hip-hop group that set airways alight in the late nineties. Today, Siya, is an entrepreneur of note with a heart for music and a head for business.

On 15 August 2018, Siya will join the team of the North-West University’s (NWU’s) bhive Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) in Vanderbijlpark when he will share his entrepreneurial journey with students, start-up entrepreneurs, business owners and members of the campus community. The session is set to start at 14:00 at the Open Incubator in Building 3.

More about Siya Metane

At 35-years of age, Siya is a seasoned entrepreneur who just recently launched a new business venture: SlikourOnLife, which is part of OnLife Networks. As the managing director of SlikourOnLife, Siya describes his company as a digital platform from where information on urban culture and music can be shared. By featuring rich content such as videos and interviews the platform provides substance to the music and to musicians who may not have access to traditional platforms. Siya further explains that the platform offers a more cohesive and accessible place for this type of content than YouTube.

As an entrepreneur he has passed through numerous rites of passage, so to speak, and went from making music in his mother’s house, dabbling in his father’s taxi business and, finding and managing a large-scale entertainment agency before he found his niche market.
