#SEW2017 – campus joins forces with DHET to host Entrepreneur Bootcamp

Entrepreneurship continues to be a critical performance area within the South African economy and as such the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) has joined forces with institutions of higher learning to develop programmes to enhance entrepreneurial skills by means of a national Student Entrepreneurship Week (SEW).

The SEW will take place from 1-7 August 2017.

Heading up initiative – known as #SEW2017, is Dr Norah Clarke from the DHET’s Directorate for University Academic Planning and Management Support. Several institutions of higher learning will take part in the initiative, and in the Gauteng province the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Vanderbijlpark have been identified as a key role-player.

The theme for the week is “Entrepreneurship is a career” and on the campus in Vanderbijlpark the initiative will be coordinated by the bhive EDC, Business Management lecturers and the Young Entrepreneurship Business Organisation (YEBO)

According to Ms Natanya Meyer, an entrepreneur and lecturer in the School of Management Sciences on the campus, the aim of #SEW2017, is to impart basic entrepreneurship skills to students from all disciplines.
