School of Accounting honours top students

The School of Accounting on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Mahikeng, in collaboration with the South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA), hosted an award ceremony on 19 September 2017 to honour 2016’s third-year financial accounting top achievers.

The award ceremony is an annual event, sponsored by SAIPA, to celebrate academic excellence.

Ms Haremakale Ramakheteng from SAIPA was the guest speaker during the event, speaking about ethics in the accounting profession. She also made the commitment on behalf of SAIPA to sponsor this annual event for the next 12 years.

Mr Simon Magumbo, the director of the School of Accounting, thanked SAIPA for their contribution. He also spoke about the school’s commitment to produce more accounting professionals for the country by offering an honours degree in financial management since the beginning of this year.

Top student per module

Tax - Ms Thobakgale

Auditing - Ms Thobakgale

Financial accounting - Ms Ntsole

Management accounting and financial management - Ms Mogashwa

Top students overall

1st Position - Ms Thobakgale

2nd Position - Ms Mogashwa

3rd Position - Mr Ntimane

4th Position - Mr Mmatlakgomo

Shared 5th Position - Ms Molefe, Ms Motlhabe, Ms Muleya and Ms Senyasamore

 These students were recognised as top performers in their modules: Ms Thobakgale - tax and auditing, Ms Ntsole - financial accounting and Ms Mogashwa - management accounting and financial management.

 Ms Thobakgale was announced the top achiever in financial accounting for 2016.
