When Eugenia March entered the Information Technology (IT) department as telephone coordinator and later as administration secretary at the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus 42 years ago, it was a very different environment she recently retired from.
She joined the NWU in 1982 and has played a vital role in the department’s operations over the years, witnessing changes within the university and adapting to evolving processes and technologies.
"I joined the university when it was still the University of Bophuthatswana, which later became the University of North West, and then finally the NWU. I have witnessed the transformation of the university since its formative years, especially the Mahikeng Campus," she says.
Speaking at her farewell event, Eugenia reflected on her time at the NWU. "This university has been my second home. I have worked with remarkable colleagues who have become like family. The NWU has shaped my career and personal growth, and I am grateful for every moment."
Colleagues expressed appreciation for her work, including Justice Metswi who acknowledged her contributions. "Eugenia has been a pillar in our department. Her experience and willingness to assist others have left a lasting impact. She will be missed."
Euginia says she looks forward to spending more time with her family and pursuing personal interests as she enters retirement. "While it is difficult to say goodbye, I leave with fond memories. I am confident that the department will continue to thrive."
