SABPP Student Chapter shines at Open Day with winning slogan

The newly established South African Board for People Practices (SABPP) Student Chapter at the North-West University’s (NWU’s) School of Industrial Psychology and Human Resource Management has made an impressive debut, securing first place in the Best Slogan Category at the Mahikeng Campus Open Day on 23 May 2026.

The winning slogan of the chapter, “Setting HR Standards”, earned the team top honours and a cash prize of R2 000 – a significant achievement for the newly formed student body.

The recognition represents an important milestone for the chapter and reflects the enthusiasm, creativity and professionalism of its committee members. The award serves as an early indication of the commitment of the chapter as a newly established student organisation to promoting excellence in the human resource management profession.

The Open Day provided an opportunity for prospective students, staff and stakeholders to engage and learn more about the academic offerings of the NWU, while showcasing the diverse opportunities available across faculties and disciplines. It also served as a platform to raise awareness about the role of professional bodies such as the SABPP in developing future HR professionals and upholding professional standards within the workplace.

For the School of Industrial Psychology and Human Resource Management, the achievement extends beyond winning a competition. It highlights the commitment of the school to developing innovative, industry-ready graduates who are equipped to contribute meaningfully to the evolving world of work.

The success is particularly noteworthy given the recent establishment of the chapter. It demonstrates the dedication, teamwork and determination of the committee members, who have embraced the responsibility of building a vibrant student professional community while promoting the values and objectives of the HR profession.

Kholiswa Mogoeng congratulated the SABPP Student Chapter committee on their hard work and commitment in ensuring the successful execution of activities during open day.

She also expressed appreciation to the G32 back-office team for their support, assistance and valuable contributions that helped make the initiative a success.

Reflecting on the achievement, Kholiswa highlighted the importance of leadership and teamwork in driving successful outcomes.

"Successful initiatives are built through collaboration, accountability and a shared vision. Strong leadership provides direction and inspires growth, while teamwork enables individuals to combine their strengths and work towards common goals effectively," she said.

She encouraged students to continue to support one another and to strive for excellence in future initiatives.

As the SABPP Student Chapter continues to establish itself in the university community, the early success provides a strong foundation for future activities aimed at developing professional competencies, leadership skills and industry engagement among aspiring human resource practitioners.

With its winning message, “Setting HR Standards”, the chapter has already begun living up to its slogan by setting a high standard for student leadership and professional excellence at the NWU.
