On 26 May 2021, the Student Law Council of Potchefstroom (SLCP) hosted an event with Adv Gerrie Nel, who spoke about his journey as an advocate.

Students had the opportunity to engage with him and ask him questions they have always wanted to ask him regarding the legal field.

The main idea behind the event was to show students that they are valued and are worthy in terms of engaging in powerful conversations with one of the best legal professionals that our country has to offer.

The other reason was to reignite the students’ passion for law and justice.

“We wanted students to engage and ask the questions they have always wanted to ask about the legal field,” said Mbali Ngcobo, SLCP academics officer.

The event was a huge success, with the majority of students agreeing they had been motivated to continue pursuing their law degree despite some obstacles at times.

A few students also felt that he gave them a better understanding of the legal profession.
