The North-West University (NWU) was the third stop during the public protector’s recent roadshow.
Adv Busisiwe Mkhwebane met with students and management during her visit to the North West Province.
Some of the issues that were raised by management included the proposed new language policy and access to language, gender awareness, student financing (especially NSFAS) and student safety on campuses.
Adv Mkhwebane had a question and answer session with students, paying special attention to everyone who raised an issue.
She also emphasised that students should not take part in violent protests to air their concerns, but must use the systems available to file complaints. She also reminded them that the public protector is the last resort, and that flooding her office with matters that can be dealt with by using their own systems is counterproductive.
The public protector, Adv Busisiwe Mkhwebane, recieves a gift from Mr Clement Manoko, the executive director for corporate relations and marketing.
