Prof Ushotanefe Useh receives continental honour for lifelong contribution

During the World Physiotherapy Africa Region Conference, held in Kigali, Rwanda, from 6 to 9 June 2026, the North-West University (NWU) is celebrating the recognition of one of its distinguished academics and healthcare leaders.

Prof Ushotanefe Useh, Deputy Dean for Community Engagement and Stakeholder Relations in the Faculty of Health Sciences, has been honoured with the prestigious Africa Region Service Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to physiotherapy, higher education, research and public health across the African continent.

The award recognises Prof Useh's remarkable career spanning more than four decades, during which he has played a transformative role in advancing the physiotherapy profession through clinical practice, teaching, research, mentorship and leadership.

A respected scholar, clinician and educator, Prof Useh has dedicated his career to improving healthcare practices, advancing professional standards and mentoring generations of healthcare practitioners. His influence extends far beyond the classroom and clinical setting, shaping healthcare delivery and strengthening the physiotherapy profession across Africa.

His commitment to the advancement of physiotherapy is reflected in his active participation and leadership within professional bodies across the continent, where he has contributed significantly to the growth and development of the profession.

The Africa Region Service Award acknowledges Prof Useh's unwavering dedication to healthcare excellence and his lasting impact on physiotherapy education, research and leadership in Africa.
