Prof Falola's generous book donation enriches NWU library

Prof Toyin Omoyeni Falola, a renowned Nigerian historian and professor of African studies and current holder of the Jacob and Frances Sanger Mossiker Chair in the Humanities at the University of Texas at Austin, has generously donated 27 books to the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus library on 1 August 2023.

Twelve of these books have been either personally authored, co-authored or edited by Prof Falola himself. These works cover various subjects, including history, politics, philosophy and decolonisation.

Prof Sonia Swanepoel, deputy vice-chancellor for community engagement and Mahikeng Campus operations, expressed appreciation for the valuable contribution.

“The NWU is profoundly grateful, and we intend to make these books available to students in the library, thereby enhancing the academic resources to the benefit of the student community,” said Prof Swanepoel.

Prof Falola is engaging in a series of seminars and a public lecture during his visit to the campus, which are organised by the Indigenous Language Media in Africa research entity. The seminar series takes place from 1 to 2 August, covering various engaging topics. A hybrid format public lecture, discussing communication, media, culture, and the evolving trends in the world of indigenous languages, follows on 3 August.
