Partnership aims to boost financial literacy among students

The North-West University (NWU) is actively reinforcing its dedication to student success by recently partnering with Blackbullion, a digital platform designed to build financial literacy. This partnership desires to give students the knowledge and skills they need to manage their money wisely during their time at the NWU and beyond.

“This partnership with Blackbullion contributes to student well-being, which is vital for academic achievement,” said Rassie Louw, coordinator at the NWU Digital Academy.

Blackbullion is a platform that simplifies money matters. It equips the user with practical budgeting, savings, debt management and future planning skills. Through this partnership, the NWU hopes to aid students to make better financial decisions and avoid common money set-ups.

Boeta Pretorius, director of the NWU Digital Academy, welcomed the partnership. “The application will help our students manage their finances more responsibly and build long-term stability. It also supports our goal of providing digital services that prepare students for South Africa’s strongly growing digital economy.”

Pretorius added that Blackbullion is part of a broader initiative to develop digital skills that are crucial for innovation and economic growth.

Tshepo Kgapane, product lead at Blackbullion, noted that the application is a tool designed to make financial learning less stressful.

“Our goal is to give students clear and concise practical tools to reduce stress so they can build long-lasting money habits. By the time they graduate, they should leave the NWU not only with their degrees, but also with financial foundations.”

Unlike traditional, long classes, the application offers short and interactive sessions. Students can explore topics such as side hustles, investing and taxes in a manner that feels engaging and easy.

Active participants stand a chance of being rewarded with points and vouchers from Takealot, Checkers and Mr Price for turning financial education into a rewarding and valuable experience.

This partnership between the NWU and Blackbullion paves the way for shaping graduates who are academically qualified and financially prepared for the future.
