The NWU notes the outcome of disciplinary proceedings in respect of house committee members in a male residence on the Potchefstroom campus. The students were alleged to have failed to execute their responsibilities in a manner that adheres to the ethos of the North-West University (NWU). The hearing took place on 8 February 2019.

Based on evidence that the Campus Student Council purported to have issued a verbal warning to members of the house committee, the disciplinary committee found that the proceedings constituted double jeopardy and it was ordered that the students be reinstated in their positions with immediate effect.

The university is taking legal advice and will respond further in due course.
