The conference will be presented by Optentia’s research subprogramme Holistic Learner Developments in Diverse Contexts, in partnership with Francis Young International Consultants in School Improvement (FYI-CSI) and Edtechink.
Prof Mirna Nel, research professor at Optentia, highlights several topics that will be discussed during the conference:
- developing a roadmap toward and inclusive society;
- leadership in an inclusive school;
- strategies for supporting the learning needs of children with autism;
- early identification of children with autism spectrum disorder;
- developing an effective programme for children with autism;
- evidence-based treatment for children with autism;
- developing effective programmes for learners with cognitive impairments;
- behaviour management in the inclusive classroom;
- building effective school teams to support student learning, principal leadership for supporting effective inclusive practices;
- transition programming for students with moderate disabilities and
- developing effective goals and objectives to support individual education plans and student learning.
Speakers who will address the attendees include Mark C Francis, Vicky G Spencer and Alice Farling.

Mark C Francis is the co-founder and CEO of FYI-SCI and has more than 30 years’ experience as clinician and administrator. He has also been a member of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) for 30 years.
Vicky G Spencer holds a doctorate in special education. She is a certified educational diagnostician and a board-certified behaviour analyst.
Alice Farling holds a doctorate in educational leadership and is a faculty member of the Aspiring Special Education Leadership Academy and the Virginia State Board of Education.
