Open Days 2024: a spectacular showcase

This year, the North-West University (NWU) pulled out all the stops for its highly anticipated Open Days, creating an exhilarating experience that perfectly captured the essence of vibrant student life across its campuses. These events were a dynamic blend of excitement, engagement and education, designed to give prospective students and their families a comprehensive look into what makes the NWU a leading institution.

From Potchefstroom to Vanderbijlpark and Mahikeng, each campus offered a unique yet equally thrilling experience.

On 4 May the Potchefstroom Campus was the epicentre of excitement, drawing nearly 8 000 pre-registrations and approximately 15 000 visitors. The campus was transformed into a vibrant festival of knowledge and fun, with all eight faculties, student residences and various student associations showcasing their offerings. Numerous support services such as Sport, the library, the Applications office and the Career Centre also offered their assistance.

Academic presentations and lab demonstrations offered a glimpse into the innovative research and learning taking place at the NWU. The atmosphere was electric, with prospective students and parents buzzing with excitement and curiosity – a vibrant celebration of the university's commitment to diversity, excellence and community engagement.

A week later, on 11 May, the Vanderbijlpark Campus continued the momentum with almost 3 000 pre-registrations and more than 8 000 visitors. Once again, the day offered a fusion of learning and excitement, igniting the imagination of all attendees.

Faculty and support service exhibits were designed to be interactive and engaging, offering hands-on experience that showcased the NWU's cutting-edge facilities and academic excellence. Prospective students had the opportunity to engage directly with faculty members, current students and alumni, gaining valuable insights and forming connections that would guide their future academic journeys.

On 18 May the Mahikeng Campus rounded off the Open Days with almost 3 000 pre-registrations and more than 7 000 visitors. Guests were treated to a variety of activities: live sports demonstrations highlighted the athletic prowess of NWU students, interactive academic sessions provided a taste of the innovative learning environment, and cultural performances celebrated the rich student diversity. The atmosphere was one of inclusivity and excitement, as prospective students and their families explored the myriad opportunities available at the NWU.

“The impressive attendance figures from all three campuses underscore the success of the NWU's Open Days, but the true measure of success lies in the experiences and connections made,” says Pieter Möller, events and promotions manager.

“These events were not just about showcasing facilities and programmes, but also about inspiring and engaging with the next generation of NWU students,” he added.
