NWU FM radio presenter Onalenna Leburu has been nominated in the category for Radio Personality of the Year 2018 in the annual Mzansi Kwaito & House Music Awards.
He has been nominated alongside other radio personalities. They include Nkiyase & Tshepo from Alex FM, DJ Mgedeza from Massiv Metro, and Mark from Eldos FM.
Onalenna, or Ona as he is better known, is a Setswana master’s student at the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Mahikeng. He hosts “Dintshang – Church ya Mapantsola”, a show that plays strictly kwaito music.
Ona’s show gives local, upcoming kwaito artists and DJs the platform to showcase their talent live on air. He has interviewed prominent kwaito artists such as the likes of Jakarumba, the late Tsekeleke, Mavusana, Crazy T (Alaska), Letso & Rio Dee (Botswana) and Dj Fisha Fasha, just to mention a few.
The talented radio presenter who is making Setswana fashionable recently had an opportunity to co-host “Nna Le Wena” with Amon Mokoena on Motsweding FM.
“It is an honour to be recognised for your efforts,” says Ona. “I am looking forward to the awards and to meeting all the other radio personalities.”
The Mzansi Kwaito & House Music Awards will take place on 24 November at Carnival City’s Top Arena.
These awards recognise, celebrate and connect kwaito and house artists and those working hard behind the scenes to craft the great music we enjoy.
The first Mzansi Kwaito & House Music Awards ceremony took place in 2016 – the first entertainment awards to exclusively recognise the kwaito and house music genres.
