The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Alumni Relations office, in partnership with the bhive Business Enterprise Development Centre (EDC), will host the annual NWU Alumni & Friends Business Breakfast on 25 March 2022.

The event brings together various stakeholders, including alumni, staff, students, community members, local businesses, and various government departments, offering them the opportunity to join in robust discussions and to network with business members across the Vaal Triangle region.

This year’s event is themed “Building a future that works for us”, and will feature a panel discussion led by internal and external experts who will further analyse and unpack issues regarding the State of the Nation Address (SONA) and the National Budget Speech.

The panelists include:

  • NWU lecturer and political analyst, Prof Barry Hanyane,
  • CEO of Seriti Resources, Mike Teke,
  • Executive director of Diagnostics, Francois Fouche, and
  • Strategic affairs director at the Human Sciences Research Council, Dr Palesa Sekhejane.

NWU lecturer Michelle Meixieira Groenewald will serve as moderator of the event.

“We are delighted to have thought leaders and economic and political analysts gathering on our campus for what promises to be a thought-provoking and productive discussion,” says Zanele Ngobese, NWU alumni relations practitioner and organiser of the event.

“This business breakfast aims to offer insight into how certain reforms will affect businesses and the South African economy. This will be a robust discussion on the highlights and impact of the Budget Speech and the SONA, including how it will affect ordinary people and businesses. The panelists will share their personal analysis of the Budget Speech and the SONA, before engaging in a panel discussion where the floor will be opened to attendees.”

Zanele adds that the event is open to all alumni and friends of the NWU, and encourages people to RSVP before 12:00 on 23 March 2022. For more information, please contact Zanele on 016 910 3250.
