NWU’s Vanderbijlpark Campus honours long-serving staff members

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus recently hosted a long-service awards ceremony to honour and acknowledge staff members who have served the institution with loyalty, dedication and hard work for 10 years and more.

The event has become a highly anticipated occasion, and this year more than 40 staff members were awarded.

Dine Du Pleez, who has worked at the university as an academic adviser for 30 years, was honoured for being the longest-serving individual on campus at this occasion.

She joined the NWU in 1994 and says it has been an honour and a pleasure to work at the NWU.

“I have been happy all my 30 years of working at the NWU and had the pleasure of witnessing the university grow. I witnessed new buildings rising on the Vanderbijlpark Campus, more study options, the change in demographics and the rapid growth in student numbers,” she says, adding that the only thing she misses is the wildlife.

“We do not see a lot of game on campus as we used to.”

Acknowledging staff achievements during the celebratory event, Prof Linda du Plessis, deputy vice-chancellor for planning and Vanderbijlpark Campus operations, said she was elated that 40 staff members were recognised for long service ranging between 10 to 30 years, as it showcased their loyalty and dedication.

“I believe a long service award is one of the most honourable achievements. As management and your colleagues, seeing so many of you grow and take ownership of your work environment is a privilege. Our staff members are the biggest asset of the NWU. We are very grateful to you for all the loyalty and dedicated work you have done over these years. Thank you for being an important part of our family,” she added.
