NWU’s Animal Health looks out for our furry friends

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) subject group Animal Health hosted a pet Fun Walk on 30 October 2021 to raise awareness about canine diseases such as rabies, cancer, distemper and others.

Animal lovers and their canine friends met at the main gate of the NWU’s Mahikeng Campus, and joined in the fun walk all the way to the Animal Health building.

Hosted by Palesa Tibane, a 2021 Mrs South Africa finalist, the fun walk also aimed to raise funds for the South African Canine Cancer Association and to promote the services of the Animal Health Clinic.

“Fortunately we also received support from various sponsors such as the North West Department of Agriculture, the SPCA, F10 Products and Zeotis – to name but a few,” says Prof Mulunda Mwanza from the subject group.

“The fun walk was also to encourage pet wellness, and after the walk, pet owners had the opportunity to attend educational talks on various pet-related topics.”

Vaccinations and other primary health care services were also provided to animals during the event.

Prof Mwanza says the fun walk will take place on a regular basis and the next event will be on 13 November 2021.

“We aim to raise even more funds, and participants can look forward to lots of raffle prizes.”
