NWUFM presenter nominated for radio presenter of the year

By Bonolo Monaisa

Mogomotsi Ntehelang, afternoon drive show presenter at NWUFM, the radio station on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus, has been nominated for the North West Media Awards in the Radio Presenter of the Year category.

The awards, now in its sixth year, continue to grow, with a total of 682 nominations received and 208 nominees shortlisted. The nominees represent a wide array of media outlets, including individuals, newspapers, radio stations, private sector and government institutions. This year’s awards feature 16 categories, with seven categories to be judged and nine categories open to public voting.

Mogomotsi, a final-year BA communication student, started her radio career at NWUFM in 2022 when she was a first year. She says she is still in disbelief about the nomination. “I honestly thought it was a lie. Who would nominate me, especially because I'm just a campus radio presenter?

“However, I am grateful – being nominated means my craft is recognised, and I look forward to the results and wish all the nominees the very best.”

Mogomotsi believes versatility is the key to content creation, and she believes her listeners’ most favourite insert on her show is “Dare me Friday”.

Her advice to future aspiring radio presenters is to not enter the industry for fame, but rather because you have a passion for it.

The judging and voting periods for the North West Radio Awards will run from 1 August to 30 November. The grand awards ceremony will take place on 6 December at the Orion Safari Hotel in Rustenburg.
