NWU vice-chancellor treats Varsity Football champions

Prof Dan Kgwadi, vice-chancellor of the North-West University (NWU), hosted a special lunch on 1 October 2019 to congratulate the NWU soccer team on winning the 2019 Varsity Football tournament.

Prof Marilyn Setlalentoa, the deputy vice-chancellor for Mahikeng Campus operations, and Dr Sibusiso Chaluva, the executive director for student life, also joined in the celebrations.

During his address, Prof Kgwadi acknowledged the management of the Soccer Institute, their technical team and the players for their excellent  performance and endurance during the Varsity Football tournament.

“The NWU’s focus is on growth and success. The university management team members commend you for the job well done,” said Prof Kgwadi. “As brand ambassadors you carried the NWU flag high.”

Coach Karabo Masehela spoke on behalf of the team and said their accomplishment required good planning and team work.

“Having a good relationship with the players and all other stakeholders enabled us to achieve this.”

During the lunch, the captain Paseka Matsheka presented Prof Kgwadi with the Varsity Football trophy and a replica NWU football number one shirt.

The NWU were crowned the 2019 Varsity Football champions after beating TUT 1-0 in a hard-fought final in Mahikeng on 26 September 2019.
