Prof Dan Kgwadi, vice-chancellor of the North-West University (NWU), along with Prof Marilyn Setlalentoa, the deputy vice-chancellor for operations on the campus in Mahikeng, hosted a special lunch for principals from schools in and around the Mahikeng area on 25 July 2018.
The aim of the luncheon was to deliberate on challenges and breakthroughs in the teaching and learning space, with a particular focus on heads of schools as well as lecturers in the institution.
During his keynote address, Prof Kgwadi acknowledged all principals and the good work they are doing in producing well-performing students that can enrol at the university.
Prof Kgwadi’s address was anchored on three pillars:
- The importance of social economic justice within various communities
- Quality resources for all schools regardless of the area it is located in
- Equity of education provision for all learners
“This deliberation would not only seek to build a knowledge-sharing platform between the two centres of education,” Prof Dan Kgwadi said. “We want to create a space where content taught and interaction with learners and/or students are optimal for the benefit of those at the receiving end of education.”
”We ought to encourage participation on these kind of platforms,” said Prof Setlalentoa. “These platforms will allow us to deliver the kind of educational content that is not only beneficial to our students at tertiary level, but also makes a meaningful impact in their social interactions with one another in their communities.”
Prof Dan Kgwadi addresses the delegates on transition issues faced by first-year students at the university.
