NWU students reach out to those in need

By Menziwa Msibi

On 5 May 2023 students from the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus showed their hearts are in the right place when they reached out to help fellow students in need with their Feed a Student campaign.

The food was donated to a Meal-A-Day project.

This campaign supplements the Meal-A-Day project run across all three of the NWU’s campuses, which gives needy students a month’s supply of essentials, including clothing and toiletries sponsored by Tiger Brands.

Chris Matimba, community engagement officer, says they started this campaign after realising an increase in the number of students struggling to make ends meet.

“We started collecting non-perishables to donate to Student Counselling and Development last year, and this year we requested students to drop off non-perishable items at the Cluster 13 gate. With the necessary permission, we also visited other residences on campus,” says Chris.

“The goal of this initiative was to show support for fellow students. We might not be able to support them financially, but by living the NWU’s values and being caring and inclusive, we can make their lives a little bit easier.”

A generous donation of food parcels brings relief to students in need.
