NWU student will be singing gospel in the USA

Final-year education student Tshepo Tshepido Mothobi from the North-West University (NWU) is one of three local South African gospel artists who won a trip to perform in the United States of America (USA).

The Klerksdorp born Tshepo entered the Sing Gospel in the USA competition along with 247 other hopeful singers, and after reaching the top 14, was selected as one of top three by means of a public voting process.

The three winners will visit the USA for a month and will be featuring in the Atlanta, Georgia’s tour programme during February 2020.

Gospel is his first love
Besides being a full-time student, Tshepo is also a songwriter and a full-time artist.

He started singing professionally in 2008 as part of a gospel group called Trio. In 2013 he went solo and in 2017 released his first single called ‘Kabelo Ya Ka’. His second single, ‘Marato Otlhe’ was released in 2018. He has also won the Best Gospel Song award in 2017 at the Matlosane Entertainment Music Awards.

Tshepo says he is excited to be in the top three, especially since he had to compete with renowned gospel singers such as Keke Phoofolo and Mqobi Nxumalo from Joyous Celebration.

“I always wanted to go the USA, so this alone was motivation enough to for me,” he explains.

“This will also assist me as a gospel artist to expand my music reach.”
