NWU student is one of GradStar top ten achievers

North-West University (NWU) student Lesego Sole has been recognised as one of the Ten Of The Finest GradStar 2019 top 10 achievers during the Grad Star 2019 awards on 19 September 2019.

The GradStar programme recognises the top 100 students across the country based on their leadership qualities and readiness for the workplace. All university career centres from across the country participate in marketing the programme to their students, ensuring representation from all disciplines.

Of the approximately 3 500 entries received, the list is then narrowed down to the top 100, and finally the 10 of the finest student achievers.

The students go through a rigorous four-phase judging process, culminating in a day of workshops hosted by potential employers and sponsors.

Many of the top 100 students have received job offers from major employers as a result of being recognised through this programme. All 100 top students are connected with successful business mentors to further prepare them for the workplace. The top 100 students also have the opportunity to attend a leadership conference called the Rising Star Summit. [N1]

Lesego, a third and final-year BCom Law student at the NWU’s campus in Mahikeng, says she is honoured to be selected as part of the Top 10 GradStar achievers.

“When my name was called I felt incredible,” she says.

“I came into GradStar 2019 not really knowing what it was about, nor did I have any major expectations. Being part of the top 10 also made me realize that I have to always do my best and never give up on myself.

“I believe programmes like GradStar are important for young people to realise their full potential,” she adds.

The NWU’s Lesego Sole is of the Top 10 GradStar achievers.
