North-West University (NWU) honours student in business statistics Ketsane Benson Nkuna has been announced as one of the winners of the South African Statistical Association (SASA) Bursary and Scholarship competition for 2019.
The NWU’s subject group Business Statistics and Operations Research officially handed over the award – a bursary of R28 000 - to Ketsane on 3 March.
This bursary will pay for Ketsanes honours studies in 2020.
Ketsane says he is grateful. “I would like to express my gratitude to all staff members of the subject group for their efforts to keep students informed about bursary opportunities and for the assistance they offer.
“I would also like to thank to Dr Volition Montshiwa and Martin Chanza for their mentorship and assistance.”
Dr Montshiwa in turn congratulated Ketsane on this achievement, and encouraged him to continue working hard.
More about the SASA competition
The annual South African Statistical Association (SASA) Bursary and Scholarship competition is open to all third-year statistics or mathematical statistics students who are planning to pursue an honours degree in statistics or mathematical statistics at a South African university.
Three awards are made: a bursary of R28 000 sponsored by SAS, based on academic merit to a student who can demonstrate financial need; and one bursary and one scholarship of R13 000 each - sponsored by ICCSSA and SASA - one to an academically deserving student who can demonstrate financial need and one based purely on academic merit.
Ketsane Benson Nkuna won a bursary to the value of R 28 000 from the South African Statistical Association. Here he is with members of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences.
