The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Stakeholder Relations department hosted an event for staff members who are alumni on the campus in Mahikeng on 16 March 2018.
According to Mr Warren Makgowe, director of the department, the aim of the event was to update staff who are alumni and members of the Convocation on events that will take place this year.
“We urge staff members to participate in alumni activities,” said Warren. “We also want to encourage them to join the university’s Convocation and to participate in Convocation events.
“Part of our strategy is to also engage alumni members through events, surveys, and different communication channels such as BUAtv and the NWU & U alumni magazine. We look forward to receiving contributions from all our alumni during these engagements,” added Warren.
Prof Dan Kgwadi the vice-chancellor, also encouraged the attendees to take part in structures of the university such as the alumni and Convocation fraternity, especially sharing these exciting times during which the NWU’s strategy is being implemented.
The Convocation consists of former students and therefore alumni who have obtained their qualifications from the NWU, as well as all permanent staff members of the university. Membership can only be obtained through a formal application and payment of the prescribed fee of R50 for lifelong membership.
The purpose of the Convocation is to promote the well-being of the institution by safeguarding its image, traditions and interests and by serving as a bridge between members of the Convocation and the university. The Convocation is represented on the university Council and also works closely with other structures such as the Alumni Association that promotes interaction between the university and its alumni.
