NWU postdoctoral fellow commemorates Woman’s month

Dr Musawenkosi Saurombe, a postdoctoral fellow from the North-West University (NWU) spoke at several events to commemorate Women’s month

She participated in a dialogue alongside Ms Bathabile Dlamini, the Minister of Women Affairs in the Presidency, at the Charlotte Manya-Maxeke Institute (CMMI). The theme of the dialogue was “Language, access and decolonisation of education”, and was aimed at bringing together perspectives of different generations to foster better transition of leadership from old to young.

“I have had the privilege of being part of this cause as I an ambassador of CMMI,” said Dr Saurombe. “It was an honour to address women who played and continue to play a pivotal role in the emancipation of women and all other oppressed people in the South Africa.”

Dr Saurombe was also invited to be one of the keynote speakers at a Women’s retreat in Natalia, Durban from 15 to 19 August.

The main purpose of this retreat – which more than 1 000 women are expected to attend – Is to commemorate women’s month by discussing a series of topics that are pertinent to the role of women in our society today. “This event will also give us the opportunity to learn from each other’s experiences to strengthen our significance in our communities as adhesive agents,” she said.

Dr Saurombe was also one of the speakers at the Women Empowerment Conference that was organised by the Mahikeng Student Campus Council on 11 August 2018 at the NWU’s campus in Mahikeng.

Dr Musawenkosi Saurombe and a project manager from the Charlotte Manya-Maxeke Institute, Ms Lungile Makhanya.
