Professor Abel Pienaar, director of the School of Nursing on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Mahikeng, recently identified and partnered up with Henrietta Stockdale College, a nursing education institution, to promote nursing education in and around the Northern Cape Province.
In addition to recruiting interested high school learners to choose a career in the field of nursing, the School of Nursing also places students at various health care clinics and hospital facilities to enhance clinical teaching and learning.
As part of the partnership with Henrietta Stockdale College, the NWU – In conjunction with the Northern Cape Department of Education – will conduct an educational situation analysis of other colleges that offer nursing education in the Northern Cape. The aim will be then to invite them to join the partnership with the university to recruit more nursing students and to increase the capacity of learning sites to provide nursing students with clinical learning.
“We hope to form many more partnerships with other institutions in the Northern Cape, giving hope to learners and recruiting more nursing professionals for the future,” said Prof Pienaar.
