“The trophy came home!”
This was the reaction when the sêr group of the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Laureus men’s residence scored first place in this year’s national Varsity Acapella competition.
During this past weekend in Stellenbosch, Minjonet ladies’ residence once again took third place in the ladies category.
The success of these residences is due to the talent of their coach, Tanya van Aardt, and choreographer, Lyrinda Venter. “They really weaved magic with the voices and moves on stage,” says Arno Hollander, student council member for arts on the campus in Potchefstroom.
Laureus was also announced as the group with the best choreography, best rendition of an African song and best own composition.
Hannes Fourie, primarius of Laureus, says the residence group, Sêrreus, did not only make Laureus proud, but also the whole of the NWU.
Caput men’s residence won the trophy in 2016. The previous winners were Vergeet-My-Nie ladies’ residence in 2010 and Veritas men’s residence for four years (2006 to 2009).
The sêr group of Laureus men’s residence is the winners of Varsity Acapella 2018’s men’s division.
Big smiles on the faces of Dylan Hart, Arno Hollander, Dalena d’ Assonville, Tanya van Aardt, Melana Jacobs, Lyrinda Venter and Jaco van der Walt, director of NWU Arts – Potchefstroom Campus.
