NWU makes Varsity Hockey final

There is less than a minute of playing time left. Carli Pretorius finds the back of Kovsies’ goal box and the home crowd in Potchefstroom goes wild.

This is how the North-West University (NWU) secured its spot in the final of the Varsity Hockey tournament against Maties.

It was Carli’s second goal in the semi-final, and along with Courtney du Preez these two ensured the NWU’s road to victory with a 5-4 score.

The NWU won five from their seven group stage games, with only Tuks and Kovsies who could beat the women in purple. The NWU will now have to hit the road to Stellenbosch to face Maties in the final.

Maties also won five of their seven group stage games, whereafter they beat Tuks 7-5 in the semi-final.

The final takes place on Monday 20 May at 18:45.
