This year marks the fourth rendition of the summit and will see captains of industry and business, members of the national media fraternity, entrepreneurs and representatives of both civil society and government come together to deliberate on leadership complexities.
The summit represents a dynamic partnership between the university and the MIKS Foundation. The latter is a charitable, not-for-profit trust, charged with coordinating and funding of social development initiatives.
According to Mr Warren Makgowe, the NWU’s director of stakeholder relations, the aim of the annual summit is to create a platform from where intellectual capital can be shared and, by doing so, contribute towards sustainable and innovative leadership in all spheres of the community. During the summit, the following discussion themes will feature:
- Thriving during uncertainty and complexity – a leadership challenge.
- Leadership and economic development.
- Youth empowerment and the future.
Several high-level keynote speakers will also take to the podium during the summit, and these include Prof Dan Kgwadi (NWU vice-chancellor), Ms Phuti Mahanyela (Executive Chairperson: Sigma Capital), Prof Rolf Stumpf (Chairperson: Stadio Holdings PTY Ltd), Mr Brand Pretorius (retired CEO: McCarthy) and Ms Duduzile Mkhwanazi (CEO: Project Isizwe).
“In addition, the summit aims to support the sustainable future, growth, and development of South Africa and the continent by exploring best-practices, ideas and lessons from visionary and forward-thinking leaders,” says Warren. He adds that proceeds from the summit will be channelled to support needy and deserving students in the form of bursaries.
