On 14 September 2017 the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Mahikeng received a donation of 1 000 canned food items from the GoAllOut organisation towards the university’s Meal-a-Day project.
The GoAllOut10.15 challenge, spear-headed by Thabang Ramabodu and Uhone Makhado, is an initiative aimed at collecting 10 000 canned food items in 15 days. The challenge was launched on 19 August and concluded on 2 September.
Various schools in the Mahikeng area were invited to take part and the Mahikeng High School, Sol Plaatje High School and the International School of South Africa all did their part.
According to Thabang Ramabodu, the canned food will – upon reaching the set target – be distributed to needy households by the respective schools that took part in this challenge and with the assistance of the Department of Social Development.
Mr Donald Molema, project manager in the office of the deputy vice-chancellor, and Mr Jimmy Molautsi, the newly appointed director responsible for student life on the campus, received the donation.
“It is important to form progressive relationships in our communities that will allow us to partner and rid some of the challenges our students face,” said Jimmy during the handing over of the donation. “One such a partnership is the Meal-a-Day donation by the GoAllOut organisation. We appreciate your efforts and wish to see this partnership grow even further.”
The NWU Meal-a-Day project is run across all three of the NWU’s campuses that gives needy students a month’s supply of essentials, including clothing and toiletries.
