NWU Faculty of Law to host virtual workshop on Role of Women in Traditional Governance

There are numerous examples where women’s rights are still being disregarded in a traditional setting and an important aspect that has been neglected thus far is the role of women in Traditional Governance.

According to Prof Christa Rautenbach, a Professor of Law at the North-West University’s Faculty of Law, an important feature of the South African Constitution is its demand for equality, however, the same constitution protects the rights of people belonging to traditional communities to enjoy their culture with other members of the community, through this right might not be exercised in a manner that infringes the equality rights of women.

The purpose of the workshop is to brainstorm legal challenges faced by female traditional leaders involved in traditional governance in South Africa and elsewhere.

This workshop will take place virtually on the 14th and 15th of November 2022. Please click here to register and view the programme
