The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Noble Boys will face the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) on their home ground in their first Varsity Football game on 25 July 2019.
The NWU trumped UKZN in their last game during the 2018 Varsity Football season, winning the game by two goals to nil.
NWU Soccer Institute coach Karabo Masehela says his team is ready for the 2019 tournament.
“We are well aware of the mammoth task ahead,” says Karabo, who was officially appointed as the head coach of the Soccer Institute on 1 June 2019. “We are determined to be mentally strong, physically fit and keep our spirits high throughout the training process ahead of our first match. Our boys are motivated and committed to pulling us through.”
Karabo says his players are ready to repay the purple army fans for the trust they have shown in the team during the previous season.
“I’m confident that my boys are ready. It is no longer just about participating, but about earning our rightful place.”
“This is an opportunity for us to regain our fans’ trust, to truly discover our identity and to have confidence in our capabilities,” he adds.
The 2019 Varsity Football season was officially launched at the University of Johannesburg on Wednesday, 17 July. The official kick-off of the tournament for the eight participating universities is on 25 July 2019, with the final of the tournament scheduled to take place on 26 September 2019.
