NWU Enactus team scoops first place

The North-West University (NWU) Enactus team is celebrating two wins after scooping first place in the 2020 Summer Action Challenge and the 2021 Nedbank Ideation Challenge respectively.

In addition to bragging rights, the NWU Potchefstroom Campus team – Anlu Keeve, Claudia Mosupa, Hugo Pretorius, Didintle Mookisi and Mpho Maine – also qualified to compete in the 2021 Enactus National Competition in July. If they end in the top spots during this competition, they will qualify to compete in the Enactus World Cup to be held in October.

The team competed in the Summer Action Challenge in December 2020. They ended in first place and received R12 000 prize money.

The 2021 Ideation Challenge, sponsored by Nedbank, took place during the Enactus Inaugural Regional Competition at the beginning of May, during which the team presented a community project of their choice. Their winning pitch – “Future Farming” – explored vertical farming and they received R15 000 in funding toward the implementation of the project.

“The team is working extremely hard to come up with sustainable ideas that will help our community. It’s a learning process for us all, but I’m extremely proud to see all our hard work is paying off,” says Anlu, president of the Enactus NWU Potchefstroom team.

The team’s Future Farm project is based on the practice of producing crops in vertically stacked layers. The team will make use of hydroponic structures where crops are produced in nutrient-filled water. The project will be implemented in the North West province and aims to alleviate hunger, build sustainable cities and communities and encourage responsible consumption and production.

The team is currently entering the implementation phase for the Future Farm project and has a number of upcoming challenges.

“We encourage students to join us, businesses to support the initiative, and communities who can benefit to come forward,” says Anlu.
