The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences in Mahikeng recently initiated and hosted a Career Expo to empower learners and unemployed graduates in the Phela and Matlhako regions.
The NWU organised the event together with its strategic partner, the North West Development Corporation (NWDC), and in conjunction with the Pella-Matlhako Development Group (PMDG).
The event, themed “Dream it to be it”, took place on 21 May 2022 at the Bakwena-ba-Morare Tribal Hall.
Various schools attend the event, including the Pella-Matlhako High School, the Sewagodimo Technical High School, and the Morare High School.
Dr Kezell Klinck, convenor of the School of Management Sciences says the aim of the expo was to assist learners and unemployed youth with career guidance.
“This project was not only for learners, but was also aimed at unemployed youth who are interested in furthering their studies, as well as those who are looking into entrepreneurship but lack business start-up capital,” explains Dr Klinck.
Also in attendance was Pella-Matlhako chief Godfrey Gasebone, who expressed his gratitude to all the stakeholders involved for initiating such a project and for their effort to better the future and lives of the South African youth.
The event was also attended by other stakeholders, including the South African Police Service, the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation, the University of Johannesburg, the Agricultural College of Potchefstroom, Rostec College, the National Lottery, as well as the DewDrop Health and Wellness Spa.
According to Dr Klinck, they hope to repeat this event in a bigger format in future.
