NWU empowers future graduates

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Alumni Relations office in conjunction with its Career Centre recently hosted a Career Empowerment seminar across its three campuses to prepare students for the working environment.

Various companies attended the events, including Standard bank, Rain Chartered Accountants, Small Enterprise Development Agency, SNG-Grant Thornton, Consumer Council and Clear Water Mining.

On 30 March Jerry Bangude, an NWU Vanderbijlpark Campus alumnus, addressed students from this campus and motivated them to never quit on their dreams. Dr Peet Roos from the Career Centre then focused on sharpening their CV writing and interview skills.

The seminar on the Potchefstroom Campus took place on the same day, and in turn GP Van Rheede van Oudtshoorn shared tips on how to best position yourself for the job market. This was followed by company presentations and talks on time management, interview etiquette, and how to compile a CV.

On 8 April, Prof Sonia Swanepoel, the deputy vice-chancellor for community engagement and Mahikeng Campus operations, encouraged students to take education seriously.

“We develop our skills through life-long learning, and that is why it is important to encourage other individuals to pursue further education,” she added.

Students then had the opportunity to listen to company presentations and to sharpen their CV writing and interview skills.
