Prof Dan Kgwadi, the vice-chancellor of the North-West University (NWU), has once again put the spotlight on students living with disabilities.
Prof Kgwadi recently held a round-table discussion with students living with disabilities and involved with the disability unit on the NWU’s campus in Mahikeng.
Discussions centered on the university’s vision for the unit, taking into account the NWU’s new strategic direction.
“Inclusivity should not only be for able-bodied students,” said Prof Kgwadi. “Students living with various forms of disability should claim confident ownership of this university - not only as their institution of choice for higher learning, but also as their home.”
The round-table discussion with these students forms part of the on-going informal engagements the vice-chancellor has committed to host across all three campuses of the NWU.
The disability unit on the NWU’s campus in Mahikeng provides a range of administrative services, including assistance with university applications, registration and residence allocation and adjustment, material production, as well as academic support to students living with disabilities. This unit is managed by Ms Vida Zenobia Mmutlwaneng, the campus student advisor responsible for students living with disability.
