North-West University (NWU) bodybuilders went toe to toe with other muscle men and women at the North West Provincial Bodybuilder Challenge held in Brits on Saturday, 21 August 2012.
After a great performance, eight members of the NWU team have been selected to compete at the National Bodybuilding Competition that will take place at the Walter Sisulu Sports building in Randburg from 1 to 3 October 2021.
The eight bodybuilders selected are Kgalalelo Sereo, Penny Sambo, Tshegofatso Lepedi, Kagiso Pele, Denish Mokala, Philemon Moseki, Gift Motlhasedi and David Tshose.
During the provincial challenge, Tshegofatso Lepedi took first place for Ladies Beach Bikini. In the category Athletic Physique over 178 cm, Gift Motlhasedi came first, Philemon Moseki came in second, and Kagiso Pele took third place. Gift was also announced as the overall winner of the Athletic Physique category. Kagiso Mokale took first place for Athletic Physique up to 174 cm, and David Tshose was automatically selected for the national team because he had previously competed twice at the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness World competition.
David, who is also the NWU team coach, says he is impressed with the team’s performance.
“I am really happy to go to the nationals with so many promising athletes. Normally only three or four athletes get through to the national competition,” he adds.
“What makes this feat even more impressive is that 80% of this year’s bodybuilding team are new to the sport and the fitness industry.”
These eight members of the NWU bodybuilding team will represent the university at the upcoming National Bodybuilding Competition.
