NWU athletes qualify for national championship

Five North-West University (NWU) athletes are going to show their mettle at Athletics South Africa’s National Athletics Championships on 18 September 2021 in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Gregory Moholola, Ntokozo Sibiya, Success Mashego, Pusetso Mokoena and Dibuseng Khampepe have qualified for the championships during the recent annual Cross Country Provincial Competition hosted by Athletics North West in Zeerust.

At this competition, Gregory Moholola won gold in the 4 km under-23 men’s category and Ntokozo Sibiya finished fifth in the same category, while Dibuseng Khampepe also received a gold medal for the 4 km under-23 women’s category.

Gregory says he is happy to have qualified for the National Championships. “I think I ran well and I am also happy with my time.

“Cross country complements road and track running and is seen by many top athletes and coaches as an excellent platform for track athletes and road runners to build stamina,” he adds.

Dibuseng is also happy with his performance. “It was an improvement from the last time I competed, and one thing that stood out for me was the consistent pace I maintained throughout the race.”
