The North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Mahikeng recently appointed Tshepisho Sebeela as alumni relations practitioner.
Tshepisho is also an alumna of the NWU, having completed both a BA in communication and BAHons in communication management at the NWU’s campus in Potchefstroom between 2012 and 2015.
“In 2015, while studying towards my honours degree, I was fortunate to secure an internship in the former Department for Institutional Advancement,” says Tshephisho. “In 2016 I was appointed as events coordinator in the same unit.”
Tshepiso says prior to her studies she had the opportunity to work in communication in both the private and public sector.
“I worked for Absa as a marketing and communication consultant (business support function) were I was exposed to business operations in private, business and retail banking. As a senior communications officer in the public sector, my experience was expanded working with larger and diverse groups, doing events and spending time in rural and farming communities. This broadened my understanding of the different business dynamics within agriculture, land reform and rural development.
“I want to take all this experience and use it to add value to this great institution,” Tshepisho adds.
The NWU’s alumni practitioners promote lifelong links between alumni and the university. These officers arrange alumni gatherings such as reunions and golf days, and keep members informed about key university developments.
