The North-West University (NWU), in partnership with the South African Police Service (SAPS), will host a comprehensive Crime Prevention and Career Awareness Activation on the Mahikeng Campus, reaffirming their shared commitment to creating a safe learning environment while empowering students with valuable career opportunities.
The event, scheduled to take place at the Great Hall from 13 to 14 August 2026, will bring together SAPS officials, crime prevention specialists and various specialised police units to engage directly with students and members of the university community.
The initiative forms part of the ongoing collaboration between the NWU and the SAPS to strengthen campus safety, promote crime awareness and educate students on responsible citizenship while introducing them to career opportunities in the SAPS.
Students attending the activation can expect an interactive programme featuring crime prevention exhibitions, demonstrations by specialised SAPS units and informative presentations on issues affecting young people.
Among the key focus areas will be awareness campaigns on gender-based violence and femicide, cybercrime, substance abuse, human trafficking, domestic violence and personal safety. Students will also receive practical guidance on crime reporting, victim support services and the role every individual can play in creating safer communities.
The event will further showcase the work of specialised SAPS units, providing students with a first-hand understanding of modern policing techniques and the diverse career paths available in the organisation.
In addition to crime prevention awareness, SAPS recruitment officials will engage with students interested in pursuing careers in policing and law enforcement. Information will be shared on recruitment processes, educational requirements, career development opportunities and the values expected of future police officers.
The programme also seeks to strengthen the longstanding relationship between the NWU and the SAPS by encouraging dialogue between law enforcement agencies and the student community.
