NWU and North West Cricket partnership takes centre stage

A rainy afternoon at the iconic JB Marks Oval on 4 March 2026 may have brought play to a halt, but it did little to dampen the significance of the moment as the North-West University (NWU) and North West Cricket (NWC) marked the strengthening of their partnership during the One Day Cup clash between the North West Dragons and the DP World Lions.

While the match itself was cancelled due to rain, the partnership launch went ahead, emphasising the shared commitment that extends far beyond a single fixture.

Over the past three years, the relationship between NWU and NWC has steadily evolved into a collaboration that connects education, high-performance sport and professional opportunity. The formal reaffirmation of this partnership signals not just continuity, but clear intent.

Speaking during the formal programme, Clement Manoko, NWU executive director: Corporate Relations and Marketing, emphasised the university’s approach to partnerships. “The North-West University does not merely look to enter into partnerships; we look to expand them in ways that create meaningful impact,” he said.

He added that sport remains a key pillar in the university’s broader strategy. “Sport serves to promote growth, advance inclusivity and diversity, strengthen partnerships, and ensure that the work of the university delivers meaningful impact that benefits society.”

For NWC, the partnership is equally about purpose. Chief Executive Officer Ismail Minty reflected on the deeper value, noting that it goes beyond a transactional relationship. “This partnership is not transactional but transformational,” he said.

Through initiatives such as integrating NWU into grassroots and hub programmes and strengthening high-performance structures, the partnership continues to build a more connected and sustainable cricket ecosystem.
