Three students from the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Mahikeng recently represented Southern Africa at the Asia Pacific Leadership Summit that took place in Brisbane, Australia from 4 to 9 February 2020.

Obriel Maposa, Tshiamo Molefe and Ntombifuthi Dhladhla were part of the 10 students selected by the Golden Key International Honour Society to attend this event.

Obriel Maposa is studying towards an MCom in marketing management. He has been a Golden Key member since 2016 and recently assumed the role of deputy vice-president.

Through his volunteering work, he is actively involved in the Golden Key service pillar. “I was stunned when I received confirmation that I was selected as one of the 10 ambassadors and I am extremely grateful for this opportunity,” he says.

“It was an impressive and proud moment to be an ambassador of Southern Africa, the Golden Key organisation and the NWU.”

Tshiamo Molefe is a final year BCom financial Accountancy student and describes herself as a driven individual and believes this character trait is one of the reasons why she was chosen to be part of the leadership summit.

“I am so grateful for this opportunity – this achievement has made me realise that through hard work anything is possible,” says Tshiamo.

Ntombifuthi Dhladhla recently obtained her BCom degree in logistics management and is studying towards her honours degree in transport economics. She is currently the president of the Golden Key Mahikeng Chapter.

She says this opportunity was a dream come true, not just from an academic point of view, but also because travelling outside of South Africa has always been on her bucket list.
